Workshops

Friday

W - 1 Project WOW
9:00 am - 4:00 pm

WOW was created with the goal of increasing public understanding of wetlands. Over 50 hands-on activities help better understand wetlands and what they do for our natural environment. WOW has been called “the most valuable introduction to wetlands issues and definitions” by the North American Association for Environmental Education (NAAEE).

W - 2 Community Based Conservation
9:00 am - 3:00 pm

Why do we invest our time and resources into environmental education? Traditionally, practitioners base environmental education goals, methodology, and implementation on the significant life experience research and sense of wonder models. While these methods are effective in reaching long term goals of creating the next generation of environmentally aware citizenry, a new approach- community based conservation, is changing the way we look at environmental education. This workshop will demonstrate a case study for using environmental education as a strategy to reach measurable conservation outcomes by reducing threats to priority species and landscapes. Participants will also learn a methodology for modifying or creating new environmental education programs that inspire stewardship in the long term while ensuring the protection of wildlife today.
